The Artevelde University College Ghent (AHS), member of the Association Ghent, emphasizes the importance of the intercultural dialogue and the democratisation of internationalisation. The university college aims at stimulating the international networking between institutions and practice. It aims as well at enhancing the international dimension in education, mobility, research and innovation to ensure the best quality within the organisation.
Main objectives and priorities for internationalisation
Priority 1: To enhance a broader international experience for students and staff
International experiences have an important impact on the development of the competences of the students and staff members. Therefore, the study programmes provide a range of possibilities for students to study abroad and offer shorter term activities at home. Virtual mobility is seen as a valid alternative for an international experience abroad.
Priority 2: Curriculum development within a European perspective
It is a main objective of AHS that the sustainability of its internationalisation activities is based on the integration of these activities in the broader institutional framework and the embedding in international, multilateral networks and activities.
Priority 3: To stimulate international/intercultural and interdisciplinary competences.
Priority 4: To empower the visibility and broader dissemination of project outcomes.
To facilitate a broader dissemination and implementation of the outcomes and to generate possible spin-off activities, including links to lifelong learning, research, service to society etc.
EUC and EPS will be published on the institutional website and promoted through the newsletter.
Priority 5 : Support to non-discrimination policy
AHS had substantial experience in inclusive education and hence consciously wants to contribute to more equal opportunities for gender, for persons with a disability, and combating xenophobia and racism.
Strategy: Action programmes
Action 1: Mobility of staff and student
•Improvement of student and staff mobility rates and the quality of the exchange programmes
•Integration of teaching staff mobility in the core activities of the departments
•More flexibility and transparency in the organisation of study programmes to assure better reciprocity in mobility and co-operation.
Action 2: Internationalisation @Home
•Qualitative international experiences for all students and staff through larger exposure to incoming students and staff, in order to enhance their professional, personal and intercultural competencies.
•Development of international and interdisciplinary modules.
Action 3: Strategic networking in multilateral projects
•Departments enhance benchmarking through international co-operation and thus build on their own strengths and opportunities.
•International activities facilitate the departmental goals to be reached faster, in a more qualitative way and supported by a broader platform.
