mission:
Founded in 1995 the Karel de Grote Hogeschool is an amalgamation of 13 Catholic 'hogescholen' (university colleges) in Antwerp, all with a long tradition and a reputation for quality. The Karel de Grote University College is a new dynamic institute with approximately 9500 students. It is precisely these students who are the first concern of the institute, an approach which is amply reflected both in its policy of student participation and in the social service and guidance offered to its students.
The Karel de Grote University College is a Christian knowledge organisation in which students and staff members stimulate each other to develop their talents and to help shape a changing world. The mission of the University College is “Start in poleposition”.
The Karel de Grote-University College offers a broad range of bachelor and master study programmes in six departments: Art and Design, Health Care, Commercial Sciences and Business Administration, Industrial Engineering and Technology, Teacher Education, and Applied Social Studies.
Karel de Grote University College is an institution with an international feel. By making student mobility one of our primary focuses, we give our students the opportunity to broaden their horizons.
We cooperate with a considerable number of prominent foreign institutions, we encourage our teachers and other staff members to actively participate in international projects and we make sure that our curricula are internationally oriented.
On October 4th, 2001 the University of Antwerp, the Plantijnhogeschool, the Artesis hogeschool Antwerp, the Maritime academy Antwerp and the Karel de Grote University college signed a declaration of intent for cooperation, which has been named the Association of 'Universiteit en Hogescholen Antwerpen'. This covers a network for regional cooperation, fitting in with the implementation of the Bologna agreement which is a declaration of intent between the European Ministries of Education.
