mission:
XIOS University College Limburg was established in 1995 as the successful result of a few mergers and became a single autonomous institution of higher education. XIOS is a partner in the Association University and Hogescholen Limburg.

XIOS is an acronym for the mission of our hogeschool and has to improve the recognisability:
The X stands for the eXpertise and refers to the geographical and symbolic cross-road position of our institution.
The I refers to the Industry (and other sectors of economy). Through scientific research and by rendering services to the community the XIOS will continue to meet the demands of the world of entrepreneurship.
The O stands for “Onderwijs” (Education) and “Opleiding” (Training). Our education is based on research and has a strong emphasis on student centeredness, competence based learning and flexible learning programmes.
The S refers to Society. The interaction between all these tasks is essential for our institution. Therefore, XIOS takes an important place in our society and aims to enlarge its broad social basis.

Thanks to its excellent internal quality assurance, based on continuous assessment, XIOS optimises its education programme and enlarges the chances for its graduates on the labour market.
XIOS has opted for a policy of international cooperation and all the departments are committed to the internationalisation of higher education. XIOS supports the realisation of international competence profiles and is focused on international benchmarking, cooperation with other institutes, networking and research.
The goals of our research programme are to integrate the results into the study-programmes, to offer extra services to the industry and to guarantee the academic level of our education.
In all its activities XIOS is having special attention for the development of lifetime-learning.

XIOS stands for democracy, pluralism and innovation with special attention for solidarity, accessibility, tolerance and respect for other opinions.
